Devon Gilfillian Performs ‘Love You Anyway’ on ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live’

Rising soul singer Devon Gilfillian was the musical guest on Jimmy Kimmel Live last Wednesday night (Nov. 1). The Grammy-nominated crooner performed “Love You Anyway,” the title track to his sophomore album, released in April. Rocking a light blue tropical blazer with matching pants, Gilfillian delivered a soul-stirring rendition of his empowering song.

“Love You Anyway” is the current single from Gilfillian’s second album, following “All I Really Wanna Do.” The latter song reached No. 6 on Billboard’s Adult Alternative Airplay chart in May. In October, he released the official video for “Love You Anyway” and a four-pack EP with alternate versions of the song, including a rendition featuring indie band Sammy Rae & The Friends.

“My dream is for this song to bring all communities together to have a conversation. There’s so much hate in this world that we could lessen by truly getting to know each other. I’m honored that Sammy Rae has added her incredible voice to this song,” said Gilfillian. Regarding “Love You Anyway,” Gilfillian told Rated R&B, “I wanted to punctuate the album with that song because it holds onto that optimism that we can come together and figure out how to hold these politicians accountable.”

Speaking on the album, Love You Anyway, Gilfillian noted, “I wanted to share my story and pour a whole lot of love into the gap that’s grown between people in our country.” He continued, “This album is about loving yourself, finding the love that fits, and also about mending the love in your life that needs mending — especially in a world that feels very wounded. I hope it can shine like a light through the dark clouds.” Love You Anyway is the follow-up to Gilfillian’s debut album, Black Hole Rainbow, released in 2021.
