CMT PREMIERE: BRITTNEY SPENCER EXPLORES HER LOVE OF MUSIC IN "BIGGER THAN THE SONG"

BRITTNEY SPENCER SHOT THE MUSIC VIDEO FOR "BIGGER THAN THE SONG" IN BELOVED NASHVILLE MUSIC STORE GRIMEY'S.

Brittney Spencer highlighted a beloved Nashville record shop – Grimey's – when filming the new music video for her song “Bigger Than The Song.” And the Music City institution was such a crucial element of the video it was almost like a nostalgic friend had shown up on set to reminisce about beloved memories.

“There were plenty times on set where I forgot I was shooting a video,” Spencer said. “ I was just a girl getting lost in the music. This video reads the lyrics out loud and paints a simple picture of the love I have for the music that made me want to sing.”

Spencer wrote the song with Tofer Brown and Jennifer Anne Wayne. Daniel Tashian produced the song and Ed Pryor directed the music video.

“When I was walking down the aisles of the record shop and filming, I had flashbacks of being a kid listening to albums in record stores in the mall with my sister and friends,” she said. “I even found an old Judds cassette inside Grimeys.”

Spencer was so engrossed in “Bigger Than The Song” and the memories the record store evoked that she sometimes forgot she was shooting a music video.

“I was just a girl getting lost in the music,” she said. “This video reads the lyrics out loud and paints a simple picture of the love I have for the music that made me want to sing.”

She joked that the first time she saw the video, she couldn’t believe she forgot to wear her fanny pack.

“After I got over that, I felt good about how natural and easy the whole video looked and felt,” she said. “I felt like I’d be friends with that girl and listen to whatever song she dropped the needle on. I might even buy her a drink, who knows!”

At her core, Spencer says, she’s a music fan and loves how it touches so many corners of peoples’ lives.

“There’s not many things on this earth like it, and getting to actually make my own is just the biggest gift I’ve ever been given,” she said.
